DSSC participates in 1st Nat’l Higher Education Day activities
Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) joined the Commission on Higher Education and all public and private higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country in celebrating the First National Higher Education Day and CHED 27th Founding Anniversary.
With the theme “PADYAK! Moving Forward, Claiming Victory for Philippine Higher Education, Pamantasan: Pandayan Tungo sa Kaunlaran,” various activities were conducted by CHED Central Office and CHED Regional Offices in the country.
The CHED Regional Office XI (CHED RO-XI), under the leadership of Dr. Maricar R. Casquejo, CHED RO-XI Regional Director initiated the “2021 Regional Conference for Key Personnel of Higher Education Institutions in Davao Region” on May 18, 2021, via Zoom conferencing. This was participated by key personnel in HEIs in Region XI.
Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, DSSC President, together with Dr. Graciela L. Caballero, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Institute Deans, Directors, Program Heads, and Coordinators participated in the said virtual conference.
During the conference, Hon. J. Prospero E. De Vera III, CHED Chairman delivered an inspirational message to the participants. Meanwhile, Dr. Casquejo talked about “Stocktaking Higher Education in Davao Region in this time of Pandemic.” Members of the panel of reactors of the conference were Prof. Vicente Antonio V. Pijano III, Association of Private and State Colleges and Universities in Region XI (APSCUR XI) President and Private HEIs representative; Dr. Lourdes C. Generalao, University of Southeastern Philippines (UseP) President and State Universities and Colleges (SUC) representative; and Dr. Jocelyn H. Hua, President of Kolehiyo ng Pantukan and Local Universities and Colleges (LUC) representative.
Meanwhile, DSSC students attended the “Webinar on Apil Ta! Promoting Access, Ensuring Success: Bringing UniFAST and StudFAP’s to the Minorities” on May 17, 2021. This online seminar was hosted by Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education Act (UniFAST) XI which discussed UniFAST and Republic Act 10931 for minorities; CHED Student Financial Assistance Grants and Scholarship Programs, among others. Dr. Casquejo declared her full support and guide the marginalized sectors in the region to gain equal access to quality higher education.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed Republic Act (RA) No. 11522 declaring the 18th day of May as “National Higher Education Day” to commemorate the founding anniversary of CHED.(RW/DSSC-PAO)
