Aligning Environmental Conservation, Cultural Preservation, and Local Economic Development: A Site Visit to the RCIC

On March 14th 2025 the Regional Coffee Innovation Center (RCIC) and Museum of Davao del Sur State College received multiple visitors from a significant event under the Community-Based Tourism Marketing Enhancement Program. Representatives from the Department of Tourism Region XI (DOTXI), a media team from Manila, influencers, tour operators, and Tourism Promotions Board attended the visit which demonstrated how environmental conservation joins forces with cultural preservation to promote local economic development. The combined support from the Provincial Tourism Office of Davao del Sur and the Culture, Arts, Heritage, Research and Development Center of Davao del Sur State College emphasized the role sustainable tourism plays in promoting community development alongside cultural and natural preservation of the province.

The RCIC and Museum functioned as an optimal venue for showing how local development efforts drive economic growth while maintaining complete cultural and environmental preservation. The museum’s exhibits allowed visitors to see diversified displays about the local coffee production as well as traditional farming systems and cultural diversity within Davao del Sur. During the visit, the community-based tourism system showed how it delivers power to local farmers by enabling them to exhibit their offerings to a diverse market of visitors. The RCIC displayed sustainable tourism's potential when visitors experience environmental sustainability and traditional local culture.

Community-based tourism in the province received attention during a spirited discussion to discover new ways of further advancement. A group that combined regional tour guides and tourism promoters distributed new marketing strategies that advertised Davao del Sur attractions without endangering its natural elements and cultural background. Media involvement along with influencers effectively strengthened the promotion of sustainable tourism by reaching more people who supported similar programs. The guests brought both an enhanced sense of environmental preservation balance with development as well as an united initiative to develop tourism which honors cultural traditions while supporting neighborhood growth in the coffee production community. The visit stands as an important achievement in Davao del Sur's progress toward developing responsible tourism that includes every segment of society.
