The Climate-Fisheries-Plastic Nexus, an international virtual forum that focuses on sustainable fisheries management and plastic waste pollution reduction, will be virtually hosted by Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) on May 25, 2021.
The event will highlight the forum keynote of Professor Jeff Camkin, an Australian natural resources specialist.
Professor Camkin is currently an Adjunct Professor at University of Western Australia’s Institute of Agriculture, and Griffith University’s International Water Centre. He is also an honorary lecturer at the Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany) and University of Algarve (Portugal); a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Study and Development Worlwide; and an international water and sustainability consultant.
The forum aims to raise awareness on fisheries management and banning single-use plastics/waste reduction. It will also assess and promote Local Government Unit (LGU) legislation on plastic (single-use) waste reduction.
“The College, through this activity, hopefully can encourage and promote science-based, transparent, and participatory fisheries management areas to the fisherfolks, academe, LGUs and other important stakeholders,” Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, DSSC President said.
The international virtual forum is a collaboration among DSSC; Oceana, an international organization focused solely on oceans; and the Institute for Study and Development Worlwide, an Australia-based organization that specializes in linking research, policy, and practice for innovation across various sectors of international development and environmental management. It will be held online via Zoom and will be live-streamed on the Facebook account of DSSC and Oceana, 3-4 p.m. Philippine Standard Time.
